Observation & Data Collection/Processing
Multi-dimensional measurements of the conditions of the atmosphere enveloping the Earth are conducted using a variety of equipment such as meteorological satellites and radars, which capture the flows and characteristics of air. The data thus collected are entered into the forecast supercomputer, which generates assorted forecast products.
Real-time observations of runway conditions serve as data for METAR reports.
Exchange of Aviation Weather Information
Overseas exchange of aviation weather information is conducted via the International Satellite Communications System (ISCS) and the Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network (AFTN) to support international air navigation.
Preparation of Aviation Weather Products
Aeronautical meteorological products essential to aircraft operation are prepared using observational data, various NWP products, and WAFS products.
- - Aviation weather report: METAR/SPECI
- - Aerodrome forecasts: TAF, take-off/landing forecast, SIGMET, AIRMET
- - Aviation warnings: Aerodrome warnings, windshear warnings, SIGMET, AIRMET
Aviation Weather Products Services
Aeronautical meteorological products are provided through the AMO website and AFTN to airlines, aircraft operators and related staff, and related agencies to support safe aircraft navigation.
